The 2025 Toyota Highlander offers Canadian buyers unprecedented choice with nine distinct models...
As far as compact sport utility vehicles go, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 is definitely the king of the hill. Introduced roughly four years ago, the redesigned RAV4 is the popular compact SUV’s fifth generation. Over the last few years, the popularity of the RAV4 has soared to the point where it is now not only the best-selling vehicle in its segment, but the best-selling SUV in Canada overall.
If you own a previous-generation Toyota RAV4, you will discover a new model that’s more spacious, more powerful, more luxurious, packed with more features, and a lot more fuel-efficient. On the other hand, you will find the same balanced handling, craftsmanship, attention to detail, and overall capability you have learned to love from your current RAV4.
The new 2022 Toyota RAV4 is a strong contender to the Honda CR-V, another popular compact SUV that has built its reputation on comfort, fuel economy, and interior space. Both among the best-sellers in their respective segments, but recently the RAV4 has increased its lead over the CR-V and every other compact SUV in its class. Let’s see why.
The Toyota RAV4 Has More Power, More Towing Capacity and More Safety
The new Toyota RAV4 got a significant boost of power when it was redesigned. Its 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine delivering 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, quite a bit more than the Honda CR-V which has 190 horsepower from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
This gives the RAV4 more kick from a stop and provides the driver with more passing confidence. The lack of a turbo also makes the engine a bit easier to maintain and less expensive, and then there’s the RAV4’s towing capacity. While most models tow 1,500 pounds like the RAV4, the new 2022 Toyota RAV4 Trail can tow 3,500 pounds. That’s quite a bit more than the CR-V.
Lastly, the 2022 RAV4 offers not just one, but two hybrid options. The CR-V currently doesn’t have a hybrid offering. The RAV4 Hybrid offers 219 horsepower and an average fuel economy rating of under 7.0 litres per 100 kilometres. The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime offers an even more impressive 302 horsepower and a remarkable 68 kilometres of range!
When it comes to combining performance and efficiency, no compact SUV does it as well as Toyota.
