The 2023 Toyota GR Corolla made quite a splash when it was introduced earlier this year. It is a brand-new, high-performance hatchback version of the popular Toyota Corolla that delivers remarkable performance thanks to the technology and engineering of the team at Toyota GAZOO Racing.
Toyota's GAZOO Racing gave us some of the world's most notable vehicles ever produced like the A80 Supra and the Lexus LFA. Now, the team at Toyota GAZOO Racing gives us a small, light, performance hatchback that features an impressive blend of power, all-wheel drive efficiency, and style.
The 2023 Toyota GR Corolla is powered by a brand-new turbocharged three-cylinder engine that displaces 1.6 L and manages to pump out a surprising and welcomed 300 hp and 273 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox which will put a smile on every purist’s face. It has a short throw and a unique clutch that ensures optimal torque distribution across the rev range. The GR Corolla will reach 100 km/h in under five seconds.
Connecting the GR Corolla to the road is the impressive GR-FOUR all-wheel drive system, a brand-new AWD technology designed by Toyota and its racing division. This all-wheel drive system was perfected by World Rally Championship pilots and the Toyota GAZOO Racing world rally team. It is designed to ensure optimal stability in any situation, and it provides impressive customization options.
Drivers will have the opportunity to modify the torque distribution, going from 60/40 to 50/50 to 30/70 depending on weather conditions and the situation at hand.
There will be three versions of the 2023 Toyota Corolla GR with the base model starting at $45,490. This model comes with standard Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, a Torsen limited slip differential front and back, the brand-new Toyota multimedia system housed in an 8-inch screen, and 18-inch black wheels.
Two other limited-edition models will be available including the Circuit Edition and the MORIZO edition which is named after the racing name of Toyota president Akio Toyoda. Both models feature a unique design that includes a sculpted hood with integrated air vents, a carbon fibre roof, a rear spoiler, and unique interior touches such as suede or leather. The MORIZO model features a more powerful engine as well that delivers 295 pound-feet of torque and it doesn't have any rear seats in order to focus on track performance and lowering weight as much as possible.
