A look at the improvements made to the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross

Just one short model year after the Toyota Corolla Cross arrived in dealers, it’s getting significant changes for the 2023 model year.

Chief among these is the addition of a hybrid version, available in two trims: Hybrid SE and Hybrid XSE.

Both trims received Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system, allowing the Corolla Cross Hybrid to make 194 horsepower while sipping fuel at a rate of just 6.4L/100 km in the combined cycle. That’s a big deal considering fuel costs these days!

Standard kit on the SE grade includes 17-inch wheels, 8” touchscreen display, LED headlights and taillights, heated front seats and even paddle shifters and sport-tuned suspension. Changing to XSE grade adds 18” wheels, Softex synthetic leather seats and a power driver’s seat. In addition to all that, there will be the choice of four two-tone colour combinations for both trims as well as six exterior colour choices.

While the addition of a Corolla Cross Hybrid is big news, non-hybrid models have also been given a boost. All Corolla Cross models now get the latest Toyota multimedia system that is faster than previous, provides a more responsive touchscreen and incudes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In addition, the system now gets over-the-air (OTA) updates as well as a “Hey Toyota” voice command system.

With that simple phrase, the Corolla Cross can help users find certain POIs such as restaurants or gas stations, adjust in-car features such as the climate control system and seat heaters and there’s even the option to contact a live specialist through the Destination Assist feature, if you need help discovering what amenities will be available at any given destination.

Finally, all Corolla Cross models will also be getting Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 as standard. This includes a pre-collision warning system, dynamic radar cruise control, pedestrian detection, auto-adjust high beams, lane centering assist, road sign assist and more.
