Despite the various obstacles faced by car companies due to global disruptions in 2020, Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) sold more than 200,000 vehicles in 2022. This feat is a testament to TCI's commitment to providing quality, reliable vehicles for Canadians and is a cause for celebration. Even amidst production difficulties experienced by the entire automotive industry, Toyota was able to reach new heights in December and throughout the fourth quarter of the year. This remarkable outcome only reinforces their dedication to continue providing excellence in their products and services.
Impressive results for Toyota sales overall and Toyota electric vehicles
TCI experienced a significant 9.5% growth in sales during the fourth quarter of 2022, reaching an incredible 200,204 units sold. These impressive figures are even more remarkable considering the tumultuous conditions that have plagued the automotive industry throughout this period.
Toyota electrified vehicles continued to shine in 2022 with an impressive 41,987 units sold. This represented 25.9% of Toyota Canada’s total vehicle sales, demonstrating the popularity of their hybrid models. Versatility and reliability didn't suffer either as the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Toyota Highlander Hybrid, and Toyota Prius all demonstrated advanced hybrid powertrain capabilities. Toyota continues to set the benchmark for companies and the electric vehicle segment.
Toyota Corolla is now the most popular car in Canada
The Toyota Corolla became Canada's best-selling car with 33,096 units sold in 2022, marking a significant milestone for the Toyota sedan. The Corolla family offers a variety of trim levels and models - including a hybrid option - making it perfect for whatever need a customer may have. This in part helped the Corolla outsell the Civic and Elantra by about 3,400 and 8,000 units respectively.
The Toyota RAV4 remained the best-selling non-truck vehicle in Canada for 2022, selling an impressive 55,921 units. This remarkable achievement is indicative of the RAV4's quality and popularity across segments.
The Corolla Cross and the Toyota Tundra pickup were two of the standout successes for Toyota in 2022. The Corolla Cross had an impressive debut year, selling 9,263 units. Meanwhile, the Toyota Tundra sold 11,561 units - its second-best year ever - offering Canadians a dependable and reliable pickup truck option.
