The 2025 Toyota Highlander offers Canadian buyers unprecedented choice with nine distinct models...
Toyota continues its assault on the world of the hybrid car and crossover with the addition of an all-new Prius for 2023, a hybridized version of the Corolla Cross and an enlarged version of their popular Highlander. Here are just a few of the highlights you can expect from the new models.
2023 Toyota Prius
The big news in the Prius world is that it’s an all-new world, with a completely redesigned Prius arriving for 2023. It gets all-new, ultra-sleek styling that is a vast departure from the outgoing model, and boosted performance and fuel efficiency. For the ’23 Prius, Toyota has eschewed the old car’s 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine for a 2.0-litre unit, bringing total horsepower and torque to 150 hp and 139 lb-ft. Power is channeled to all four wheels as Canada gets only an AWD model across both the XLE and Limited trims. Even with all that power, Toyota is claiming 4.8L/100 km of fuel usage in the combined cycle, which is a great number. The new platform is also stiffer, meaning a more comfortable and responsive ride that should compliment the added power in providing a more stress-free and comfortable drive.
2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid
Available in two grades for Canada – SE and XSE – the Corolla Cross Hybrid is set to take all the features that make the standard Corolla Cross great – civility, great interior space, features – and compliment them with added power and efficiency. Power for the hybrid model is rated at 194 horsepower, up from 169 in the non-hybrid model. Even with the added power, expect fuel economy figures in the 6.4 L/100 km range. To help differentiate the hybrid model from the non-hybrid, the hybrid gets special 18-inch wheels and redesigned front fascia, as well as the availability of two-tone paintjobs including Blue Crush with black roof and Barcelona Red with black roof.
2024 Toyota Grand Highlander
The three-tow Highlander crossover was already a sizeable choice in the segment, but that wasn’t enough for the rabid CUV fans that permeate the market today. “Grand” spec means the Highlander gets an extended wheelbase for both more passenger space and cargo capacity. In addition to more space, the Grand Highlander also gets more engine choices: a 2.4-litre turbo four-cylinder engine (264 hp, 310 lb-ft), a 2.5-litre hybrid with 243 hp and the new Hybrid Max powertrain shared with the Sequoia and Tundra that boasts a sterling 362 hp and 400 lb-ft.
