We kind of knew it was coming, but we got the confirmation this week. The 2019 Toyota Prius will be offered with Toyota’s AWD-e hybrid technology next year. In other words, the Toyota Prius will offer all of the fuel economy benefits you expect from the car that pioneered hybrids in Canada, but with the added benefit of all-wheel drive.
Fuel economy you’ll enjoy in any weather
If you’ve never driven an all-wheel drive car in winter, you don’t know what you’re missing. The added grip, overall feeling of stability and improved handling is second-to-none when driving an AWD vehicle in the snow, on a wet road, or on any kind of slippery surface.
The 2019 Toyota Prius will offer all-wheel drive in both Technology and Technology with Advanced package models. Because it’s a compact system and because it’s engineered to a tee, the AWD-e system doesn’t hinder cargo space, nor does it have a noticeable impact on fuel economy.
Indeed, the 2019 Prius even with all-wheel drive remains one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in its segment with an average fuel economy rating of just 4.7 liters per 100 kilometers. Front-wheel drive 2019 Toyota Prius models will have an average fuel consumption rating of just 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers.
As with any Toyota model, safety is standard in the 2019 Prius. Owners will enjoy features such as Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/ PD), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/ SA), Automatic High Beams (AHB), and Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC).
These technologies are designed to keep you safe on the road by warning you of potential dangers and taking actions to avoid these dangers should the driver be distracted.
