Toyota made some changes to the Tacoma for the 2023 model year by adding a new trim level. Here’s what you should know about it.
The Nightshade edition
The 2023 Toyota Tacoma gains a new trim level in Canada for the 2023 model year. This version, called Nightshade, is aimed at customers who light the aesthetic of a blacked-out truck that doesn’t have any brightwork. Replacing all chrome elements with gloss black replicas gives the Tacoma Nightshade a menacing look that makes it stand out from other compact pickups. The Nightshade edition is positioned toward the top of the Tacoma lineup, which is why it comes standard with the JBL premium sound system, the suite of Toyota Connected Services, 18-inch alloys wheels, LED headlamps, a sunroof, black leather upholstery, the smart key access system, the blind spot monitoring system, the 360-degree camera system and the wireless phone charging mat.
A new paint colour for the TRD Pro
The 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro is the most capable and the most adventurous version of the Tacoma. For 2023, this model can receive a new black grille that spells out TOYOTA instead of having the regular brand logo. In addition, this version can be made even more distinctive with the arrival of Solar Octane, a bright orange exterior paint colour.
The same basic elements
Despite these changes, the 2023 Toyota Tacoma is still the same truck that has enjoyed sustained popularity over the last few years. This means that its reliability is already proven and its value is known to remain high for a long time. Not making mechanical changes to the Tacoma means its standard powertrain is still the same for the new model year. The only engine offered in Canada continues to be the 3.5L V6 that delivers 278 horsepower through either a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual.
